Android TV Box Firmware FAQ

Android TV Box Firmware FAQ

I get a lot of questions related to Android TV Box firmware – more than any other topic on this site. So here we have this article may help you.

1. What does Android firmware do?

Firmware is the software that controls the hardware of your Android TV box. So calling it “Android firmware” is not really correct, because the firmware belongs to the hardware manufacturer, not the Android operating system that the box also runs. So to be more precise it should be the software that controls the hardware of the Android TV box.

2. Why do you need to update the firmware of your Android TV box?

Technology updates quickly, so your Android TV box’s hardware may have more features today than it did yesterday. Firmware version updates can make your Android box do better than it did before.

Sometimes faults in the system are not discovered until after the box has already been released, and new security threats emerge over time. Firmware updates provide a level of protection here as well. While your Android TV box will still work fine without regular firmware version updates, they are necessary to get the best performance.

3. When should I consider a firmware update?

If your Android TV box is underperforming, an outdated firmware version is one of the issues you should investigate during the troubleshooting process. If you are buying a used Android TV box or purchasing a box from a dealer with a poor reputation, it is also worth checking the firmware when you first set up the box. Their firmware is more likely to be outdated.

4. Is it safe to update the firmware?

You need to be careful when updating the firmware. If you install the wrong version of firmware, you could completely destroy your box. Your hardware will not be able to perform any operations without the firmware software giving instructions. If you install an incompatible firmware version, your box may not even be able to perform a factory reset to correct the problem, essentially leaving you with a piece of junk.

5. Do firmware updates erase data?

If you perform a firmware update correctly, it should not erase any existing data.

6. How long does a firmware update on Android TV take?

Typically, it takes 15 to 30 minutes to install a firmware update on Android TV. If it takes longer, this may indicate a problem with the update.

7. Where is the reset button on my Android TV box?

If you have a working Android TV box, the safest way to perform a factory reset is to use the “Reset” button in the Settings menu. However, if you do not have access to this reset button, most Android TV boxes also have a pinhole reset button that will allow you to perform a factory reset without opening the box. The pinhole reset button is usually located on the box near the USB cable slot.
